Senate approves measure that grants uniform Christmas bonus to retired teachers

He Senate approved on Monday afternoon, out loud and with amendments in the room, a project of the Camera that grants a Christmas Bonus of $600 to retired teachers.

The measure, House Bill 1688, grants the Christmas bonus to a group of retired teachers who were left out of the Law 160 on December 24, 2013. Likewise, it increases from $200 to $600 the same benefit for retired educators who received the bonus before the approval of the statute.

“This is a great gift of social justice”said the independent senator Jose Vargas Vidot, the only one who made expressions in the chamber when the legislative piece was considered.

A group of retired teachers applauded from the stands when the measure was finally dropped. The retirees, of the Association of Teachers of Puerto Rico (AMPR), They had previously held a protest in the north wing of the Capitol so that the bill could be addressed before the end of the period to approve measures in the current and last regular session of the current Legislative Assembly.
