Senate approves measure to withdraw driving licenses from those convicted of shooting firearms from a vehicle

The Senate approved, in its session this Monday, a legislative measure that seeks to withdraw the driving license – for a term of five years – to the persons convicted of discharging a firearm from a vehicle or vessel.

The representative’s original proposal Jose “Quiquito” Melendez, passed in the House in November 2021, proposed suspending the permit permanently, but the Senate amended the language to set a five-year term. The measure received 17 votes in favor and 10 against.

In interview with The new dayMelendez did not express himself pleased with the adjustment, but said he was willing to evaluate it. “Once the measure reaches the House, we will look at it. But, in principle, a person who actively participates in a car-to-car shooting should not have the privilege of a driver’s license.he indicated.
