Senate will seek additional funds in the budget to expand Montessori schools and rehabilitate Pridco facilities

The president of the Senate Finance Committee, Juan Zaragozaindicated this Monday that as part of the evaluation of the budget For the next fiscal year 2024-2025, additional funds will be sought to expand the number of environments Montessori in the public education system and rehabilitate part of the facilities of the Industrial Development Company (Pridco, for its acronym in English).

He anticipated that the Senate will approve its budget proposal in this Thursday’s session.

“We need to put some money into the abandoned Pridco buildings to make them more accessible to potential tenants. They (Pridco) brought to my attention that a type of ‘realtor’ had been hired to start moving those buildings, but in the position they are in, they will not be able to move them,” Zaragoza explained.

In relation to expanding the number of Montesorri schools, the senator said that the budget includes an allocation of $6.4 million for these purposes, but he is proposing to expand the allocation to $9.5 million. “We also made sure that the $102 million was allocated to the University of Puerto Rico (UPR)”, stated the legislator of the Popular Democratic Party (PPD).
