Shakira: “It’s not a divorce album. “It brings together the transformation of vulnerability into resilience”

Shakira, the boundary-breaking Colombian artist, had been remarkably consistent since beginning her career in the early ’90s. She toured, released albums, won awards, weaved genre-defying global sounds into her pioneering singles, performed at the show Super Bowl halftime show and more. Then things cooled down. Or so it seemed.

In reality, the last few years have not been kind to Shakira. In 2022, after 11 years and two children together, she separated from the footballer Gerard Piquewhich led to what she describes as the “dissolution of my family”. He faced tax evasion charges in Spain and last November he received a three-year suspended sentence and paid an $8 million fine, in addition to previously unpaid taxes and interest.

In “Women no longer cry”her first new album in seven years, Shakira transforms her pain into art, from the bachata of “Monotony” to the electro-pop of “Congratulations” and the mega viral “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” with Bizarrap.
