Shooting in North Carolina leaves four police officers dead and four others injured

North Carolina — Four police officers executing an arrest warrant for a felon wanted for possession of a firearm were killed and four other officers were injured Monday during a shooting in a residence in Charlotte, North Carolinaauthorities reported.

Some of the officers who responded to the Charlotte neighborhood to rescue the first wave of downed officers were injured when a second shooter began shooting at them after the wanted man was killed.said Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings.

After a three-hour impasse, the home in the suburbs of Charlotte was destroyed. Armored vehicles were used against her, tearing out entire windows and doors. Several armored vehicles were parked in the gardens, some with tree branches hanging from them.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Service were shot by the man they were looking for as they approached the home, and the man was shot dead in the front yard, Jennings said. The identity of the individual was not released, but the police chief reported that he was wanted for possession of a weapon.
