Supreme Court does not validate the candidacies of four candidates from the Citizen Victory Movement

The Supreme Court determined, this Monday, to disqualify the aspiring representatives of the Citizen Victory Movement (MVC), Mariana Nogales Molinelli, Gladys Myrna Conty, Rafael Bernabe Riefkohl and Alejandro Santiago Calderon ahead of the elections on November 5.

In a divided opinion, the highest judicial forum in the country determined to leave only the candidacy of the candidate for resident commissioner in Washington for that party, Ana Irma Rivera Lassen. Supreme Court Chief Justice Maite D. Oronoz Rodriguez, Associate Justices Luis F. Estrella Martinez and Angel Colon Perez issued a dissenting opinion.

The lawsuit began earlier this year when candidates from the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) alleged that the contested candidates violated the Electoral Code by not collecting endorsements for their candidacies.

However, the defendants have reiterated that the endorsements were not required because they used the alternative candidate selection method.
