Tenor Juan Diego Florez promises an unforgettable night for opera lovers in Puerto Rico

When Juan Diego Florez He began to sing, his life was shaping up to be something completely different than what it ended up being. Born in Peru, the young Juan Diego knew the traditional music of his country very closely and was a lover of “pop.”

“My father, Ruben Florez, was a Peruvian music singer. And I listened to my dad sing, he accompanied him sometimes. So the music comes to me a little from there. In the last year of school, we began to stage zarzuelas, that is, Spanish operettas, and since I sang with the guitar, I began to sing some solos of those zarzuelas that we presented. And so I became interested, because I thought that if the music teacher at school taught me singing in the lyrical style, like how opera is sung, he could sing better what I sang at this time, which was pop. “I was already emerging as a pop star in Peru,” said Florez.
