The APPU files a complaint for union retaliation against the UPR following the dismissal of two teachers from the Rio Piedras campus

The Puerto Rican Association of University Professors (APPU) filed a complaint this Monday for union retaliation against the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) before the Labor Relations Board, after two experienced teachers in their enrollment were notified that their contracts would not be renewed for supposedly denouncing practices that, they noted, would undermine academic excellence.

The two professors from the Faculty of General Studies at the Rio Piedras campus of the UPR received the letters two days after the union published a bulletin denouncing the elimination of the Spanish and English workshops due to budget cuts, a complaint that those affected had been uncovered during the last academic year.

“These are clear examples of union retaliation, and as a teaching union, which is focused on defending academic excellence at the UPR, we are not going to allow retaliation against APPU teaching staff who exercise their right to express themselves and criticize what we see as incorrect.”expressed the president of the APPU at the national level, Maria del Mar Rosa Rodriguezat a press conference.
