Atlanta- Ronald Acuna Jr. hit two of Atlanta’s five homers, Matt Olson increased his tally to 47 for the major league lead, and the Braves beat Adam Wainwright and the St. Louis Cardinals 8-5 Thursday night.
Acuna increased his home run total this season to 34 with his third home run game and the 12th of his major league career. Olson homered for the fourth straight game, and Michael Harris II and Travis d’Arnaud also homered for Atlanta (91-48), which leads Philadelphia by 14 games atop the NL East.
Likewise, Puerto Rican Eddie Rosario played 4-3 with one run scored and two RBIs.
Max Fried (7-1) allowed three runs and six hits in six innings, improving to 5-0 in his last seven starts. He is 5-0 in his career against the Cardinals.
Wainwright (3-11), who last pitched in his home state of Georgia against his draft team in 2000, gave up six runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings, including four solo homers. He is stuck at 198 wins, and has lost seven straight starts and fallen to 0-10 in 11 starts since he won against the New York Mets on June 17.
For the Braves, Venezuelan Acuna Jr. is 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Dominican Marcell Ozuna 4-1.
