The Coast Guard repatriated from Saturday until today, Wednesday, to 73 Dominican citizens after carrying out five interventions in the waters of the Mona Channel, on the west coast of Puerto Rico.
“Irregular migration trips in the Mona Passage are very dangerous and an illegal means to enter the United States”stated, through a press release, the Commander Gerard Wenkwho is response chief of the San Juan sector of the Coast Guard.
“Anyone considering participating in one of these voyages should understand that their life will be at risk, and, when intercepted at sea or apprehended on land, they will not be allowed to remain in Puerto Rico or the United States Virgin Islands. ”Wenk added.
The commander also warned that anyone who arrives illegally will be repatriated to their country of origin or returned to the country from which they departed and may even be declared ineligible for legal immigration permit options.
