The Fiscal Oversight Board gives the government until Friday to submit a revised budget

The Fiscal Oversight Board (JSF) approved this Tuesday the extension requested by the administration of Pedro Pierluisi to the deadline for delivery of a revised version of the budget charged to the general fund for the 2024-2025 fiscal year, after last week the agency identified dozens of “violations” in the initial proposal of the elected government.

In a letter released in the afternoon, The Board granted until 5:00 pm on Friday to receive the budget with the corrections.

Originally, according to the “notification of violations” sent to the chief executive last week, the government had until today, Tuesday, to return an updated version of the budget, which will amount to $13,062 million, the highest amount in history.

Although both parties agree on the overall amount of the budget, the Board argued in its communication that the government had not justified a series of requests of funds, among which are items that would be allocated to the University of Puerto Rico (UPR), the State Election Commission (EEC), the municipalities and key policies of the current administration, such as Social Reconstruction and Violence Prevention Plan and the Educational Decentralization and Regional Autonomy Initiative (Devise).
