The Fiscal Oversight Board will give the government until Friday to submit a revised budget

The Fiscal Oversight Board (JSF) is preparing to approve on Tuesday afternoon the extension requested by the administration of Pedro Pierluisi to the deadline for delivery of a revised version of the budget charged to the general fund for fiscal year 2024-2025after last week the organization identified dozens of “violations” in the initial proposal of the elected government.

Although, at the time of this publication, the JSF had not released the letter, The new day learned that the entity that controls the country’s finances would allow until this Friday to receive the budget with the corrections, in accordance with the government’s request.

Originally, according to the “notification of violations” sent to the chief executive last week, the government had until today, Tuesday, to return an updated version of the budget, which will amount to $13,062 million.

Although both parties agree on the overall amount of the budget, the Board argued in its communication that the government had not justified a series of requests for funds, among which were items that would be allocated to the University of Puerto Rico (UPR), the State Election Commission (EEC), the municipalities and key policies of the current administration, such as Social Reconstruction and Violence Prevention Plan and the Educational Decentralization and Regional Autonomy Initiative (Devise).
