The heat is back for the long weekend

The Memorial Day long weekend is shaping up to be a hot one with heat indices above 108 degrees Fahrenheit (°F) with a high probability of rain for the west and northwest in the afternoon, reported Yidiana Zayas Rivera, meteorologist of the National Meteorological Service (SNM).

The meteorologist indicated that a heat warning is in effect for all of Puerto Rico that will last through the weekend.

“Right now we have a heat warning from Aguadilla, all the way north, to the east of Puerto Rico. The warning extends between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm, but the peak of the heat will be between 1:00 and 3:00 in the afternoon.”explained Zayas Rivera.

“The warning indicates that Heat indices for today could be around 108°F to 112°F since we still have the winds blowing from the southeast and that increases the temperatures,” he said while emphasizing that, Unlike air temperature, heat indices take into account recorded humidity and other factors which are the ones that cause a higher thermal sensation in the body.
