According to the Foreign Ministry, at least 22 Guatemalans reside in Haiti. The government of Guatemala stated that in Haiti there is an honorary consul originally from the country and that there are no personnel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala in that country.

Haiti is experiencing a wave of violence led by gangs that have control of several areas of the country and are accused of crimes such as murders, kidnappings, rapes that fuel the country’s ungovernability.
