The IMF warns of challenges in Argentina and the need to protect the poorest

Miami – He International Monetary Fund warned on Thursday that Argentina faces a steep path and needs to move forward to get out of the economic crisis it is going through, protecting the most vulnerable sectors that mostly bear the weight of the adjustments implemented by the president’s far-right government Javier Milei.

The statements by Julie Kozack, director of communications at the IMF, were made after repeated praise that the multilateral organization has expressed for Milei’s policies since she assumed her duties last December. They also arrive at a time when the South American nation is facing a series of street protests and strikes due to the impact of economic reforms on a large part of the lower-income sectors and the increasingly impoverished middle class.

“The road ahead for Argentina continues to be challenging,” Kozack said in a press conference from the IMF headquarters in Washington. “Building on these early achievements means that policies will have to evolve”he said without identifying those achievements.
