The Minimum Wage Evaluating Commission approves a salary increase of .50 per hour

The Minimum Wage Evaluation Commission announced on Wednesday night, after a meeting held today at the Department of labor and human resources (DTRH), the approval of the increase in the minimum wage to $10.50 per hour that will take effect on July 1.

The decision, as explained in a press release, was based on a report made by the firm Abexus Analytics, through which the impact of the salary increase was evaluated using data from the DTRH, the Quarterly Census of Employment and Salaries, the corporate income forms of the Department of Financeand the inflation rate, among other factors established by the Puerto Rico Minimum Wage Law.

After said analysis, which included simulations on the increase in the workforce, the closure of businesses and the inflationary effect with different hypothetical increases, the Commission approved by majority the increase to $10.50 per hour, highlighting “the importance of guaranteeing fair and equitable for all workers on the island.”
