The National Boxing Team does not achieve an additional Olympic berth in the qualifying tournament in Thailand and will go to Paris 2024 with two fighters

The Puerto Rican fighter Angel Llanos could not classify the Paris 2024 Olympic Games by falling on points this Sunday against the Irish Aidan Walsh in the second Olympic qualifier that took place in Thailand.

The result favored Walsh, bronze medalist in the Tokyo Olympics 2020by a score of 5-0 in the last fight of the 72 kilogram (kg) playoff round.

Llanos was the last fighter on the National Team team that was in contention for an Olympic space. With this result, Puerto Rico will be represented in Paris by Ashleyann Lozada (57 kg) and Juanma Lopez (51 kg). Puerto Rico attended the Tokyo 2020 and Rio 2016 Games with only one boxer.

“The decision of the Llanos fight is not what we expected. He did everything necessary to win, but the judges did not see it that way, unfortunately,” said Carlos “Cholo” Espada, technical director of the boxing team, through written statements.
