The National Superior Basketball suspends two players who were involved in a fight in Mayaguez

The players Byron Allen, of the Ponce Lionsand Luis Lopez, of the Mayaguez Indianswere suspended for one game and fined $1,000 for their roles in Sunday’s altercation between the two teams.

The punishment was announced on Monday by the National Superior Basketball.

The incident occurred with just six seconds remaining in the match between Leones and Indios at the Mayaguez Sports and Recreation Palace. With Ponce up, 94-89, Allen made a dunk that was reprimanded by Indians point guard Georgie Pacheco, who understood that the play was unnecessary with the game already decided.

Immediately, Lopez ran towards where Allen was and a skirmish broke out with several pushes.

Ponce took the victory 98-91.

The suspension will be for the next games of both teams. Allen, who is a backup, has played 12 games with the Lions, in which he averages 12.8 points per game. Lopez, for his part, came to the Indians this same season via trade from Ponce. He is averaging 7.7 points in 15 games with the Tribe.
