Paris – The Palace of Versailles, one of the most visited tourist places in Francewas evacuated on Tuesday for security reasons. It was the second time in four days that the complex had closed, with France on alert for the risk of attacks after the murder of a school teacher.
“For security reasons, the Palace of Versailles is evacuating visitors and closing its doors today, Tuesday, October 17. Thanks for your understanding”indicated the account of the former royal palace on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The publication did not give more details. Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Visitors and employees of the palace and the Louvre Museum in Paris They were evicted on Saturday after bomb threats, according to police.
France raised its terrorism alert level following last Friday’s attack on a school in the northern city of Arras by a suspected Islamic extremist.
The large palace complex was the residence of the king Louis XVI before his beheading during the French Revolution. The venue will be one of the venues for next year’s Olympic Games, which will host the equestrian competitions.
