The sale of Diego Armando Maradona’s Ballon d’Or is suspended

The auction of Golden Ball of the extinct Diego Maradona that was going to take place this week has been postponed, the French auction house Aguttes reported on Sunday, in the midst of a judicial investigation into a possible sale of stolen objects.

The heirs of the Argentine soccer myth did not manage to stop the auction of the trophy that he received after conquering the 1986 World Cup after having filed a legal appeal. A French court ruled that the auction could go ahead, but Maradona’s family lawyer appealed.

“Maradona always arouses passions, and this continues despite the recent ruling on Thursday, which we accepted and which rejected the heirs’ request to prevent the sale,” Maximilien Aguttes said in a statement.

“Our mission is to organize the auction in the best possible conditions for both our seller and the bidders. “The litigation environment and this uncertainty do not allow experts to deal with this calmly, and our role as a trusted third party can no longer be adequately fulfilled,” he added.
