The Scottish First Minister resigns after not having the support to overcome a vote in Parliament

Scottish First Minister Humza Yousaf He resigned on Monday rather than face a no-confidence vote, just days after ruling out a coalition with the Green Party by rejecting a goal to combat climate change.

Yousaf, whose Scottish National Party has been weakened by a scandal over campaign fund management and disagreements over transgender rights, he resigned after failing to reach an agreement with a nationalist party whose sole seat would have given him a majority in the regional parliament.

With no chance of winning, Yousaf resigned rather than face defeat this week, when the Scottish parliament was to vote on motions of no confidence in Yousaf and his government.

“After spending the weekend reflecting on what is best for my party, for the government and for the country I lead, I have come to the conclusion that repairing relations in the political sphere can only be achieved with another person in charge ”Yousaf told reporters. “Therefore, I have informed the national secretary of the party about my intention to resign as party leader.”
