The United States and Mexico promise to take more steps to combat illegal immigration

Washington —The American president Joe Biden and the Mexican president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador have taken new steps to combat illegal immigration, including stricter law enforcement on railways, buses and airports, as well as increasing migrant repatriation flights from USA and Mexico.

The two leaders previewed the measures in a joint statement following a call on Sunday, which focused on joint efforts to “effectively manage” migration and the border between the United States and Mexico. Biden and Lopez Obrador noted that they have ordered their national security teams to work together to “immediately implement concrete measures” to reduce the number of illegal crossings across the border.

John Kirby, national security spokesman for the White House, said that the United States and Mexico will increase measures to prevent the use of the main means of transportation that facilitate illegal migration to the border, as well as the number of migrant repatriation flights. Kirby also said that both countries “will respond immediately to increases in migrants”.
