They link the vice president of Ecuador in a corruption case that also affects her son

Quito – The Ecuadorian Attorney General’s Office determined on Monday that there is enough evidence to involve the vice president of that country, Veronica Abadin a case of alleged influence peddling, in which the president’s son is initially being prosecuted.

In a video published by the Public Ministry, the prosecutor Carlos Alarcon —who, until now, was handling the case of Abad’s son—said that “the alleged participation of Veronica Abad in this case was determined” after procedures such as expanding the complainant’s version and obtaining documentation and telephone information that he did not reveal.

Alarcon also pointed out that because the second president is subject to the jurisdiction of the National Court, she has decided to transfer the case to that court so that due process can continue. To do this, the vice president must be formally notified.

The case arose, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, after a former vice presidential official reported that Francisco Barreiro, son of Abad, and another person had offered him a high position for which he had to pay $1,700 of a monthly salary of $3,200. As a guarantee of payment, the complainant signed a promissory note for $30,600.
