They predict downpours and issue warnings of dangerous maritime conditions for the island this Sunday

The National Meteorological Service (SNM) issued several warnings for bathers and boaters on the north coast today, Sunday, as the passage of Hurricane Lee deteriorates maritime conditions for the island.

according to the meteorologist Manuel RamosLee would be generating waves of 10 to 12 feet offshore.

“For the entire north coast, we have breaking waves of six to nine feet, but these breaking waves are expected to exceed 10 feet after 6:00 pm and that is why we have a strong surf warning,” reported Ramos, who added Added to this is a warning of high risk of marine currents for that same region, as well as for the east coast and for the island municipality of Culebra.

At the same time, the SNM issued a warning for operators of small boats seeking to navigate in waters in the north of the island.

On the other hand, the winds of Hurricane Lee will cause shower activity on the coasts during the morning, although forecasts indicate that these showers would move in the afternoon towards the interior of the island, specifically to the Central Mountain Range region.

“Because of Lee, we have fairly light winds and these may cause rain activity during the afternoon to not move as quickly and cause more amounts of (precipitation).”warned Ramos.

SNM forecasts suggest that these regions could receive between two to three inches of rain, while in some isolated places they could see four inches or more.

Meanwhile, other areas that will not be receiving rain activity are under a limited heat warning, where rates could rise to 107 degrees Fahrenheit.

Regarding Tropical Storm Margot, Ramos reiterated that, at the moment, it does not represent a direct risk for the island, but the strength of its winds could also deteriorate maritime conditions for the weekend.
