They stop felling trees in a community in Santurce after rejection by neighbors

After a demonstration by a group of residents of Fuerte Street, in Santurcehe Municipality of San Juan notified this Thursday the residents of the condominium Santurce Towers that the scheduled felling of two century-old trees on the site has been stopped and that hearings will be held to hear both sides of the controversy.

“We received notification that the Municipality is not coming today (Thursday) and that it is going to call a hearing or meeting with all parties on the street to evaluate”he said Ginnette Dorca Diaz, resident of the condominium, The new day.

The Municipality also confirmed the information that, for the moment, the scheduled fellings will not take place.

Since the morning, the neighbors who demonstrated warned that Fuerte Street could be left practically without shade, since the Municipality planned to cut down two large mahogany trees in response to a request filed by the Santurce Towers condominium.

I live here and I thought the solution was to cut down the tree, but I came to talk to the community and those who are against logging. We understand that a balance can be achieved together”Diaz explained.
