Third call for the Letras Boricuas scholarship from the Mellon Foundation and the Flamboyan Fund for the Arts opens

The Mellon Foundation and the Flamboyan Fund for the Arts announced the opening of the third call for Boricua Lettersa scholarship aimed at emerging and established Puerto Rican writers, whose works belong to the genres of fiction, creative non-fiction, children’s literature, poetry (including the spoken word) and, for the first time, playwriting. Selected writers will receive a $25,000 unrestricted scholarship to further their literary practice..

Those interested can submit their requests through www.letrasboricuas.org starting on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 10:00 am

First established in 2021, the Letras Boricuas scholarship was designed to identify, elevate and amplify the voices of Puerto Rican writers in the Puerto Rican archipelago and throughout the United States diaspora who have continued their practice while resisting natural disasters, political conflicts and limited funding opportunities. In its first two years, the scholarship awarded a total of $1 million to 40 writers, reaffirming the commitment of the Mellon and Flamboyan foundations to invest in the cultural infrastructure of the archipelago.
