Three years of probation for the owner of a home for mental health patients in Rio Piedras

The judge of the Court of First Instance of San Juan, Ana Cruz Velezsentenced this Thursday to three years of probation Mayra Perez Oyolathe owner of the La Nueva Familia San Judas Tadeo home, in Rio Piedras, in relation to the death of the patient, Jaydie Nicole Alvarez.

In addition, Perez Oyola must comply with a special penalty of $100 and must participate in short-term individual psychological therapies, the judge reported. The convict faced a charge of negligent homicide, typified in Article 96 of the Penal Code of Puerto Rico.

The events attributed to Perez Oyola date back to August 5, 2018 when the 20-year-old girl died in the aforementioned home. According to the Department of Justice, Perez Oyola “abruptly withdrew his mental health home medications.”

During the sentencing hearing in room 1107, which took place around 11:32 am, the attorney Michael Corona Munozlegal representative of Perez Oyola, indicated that he agreed with the present report, which was “completely positive” for his client.
