“Today Wapa Media is born”: what is known about the new media conglomerate

After last week it was confirmed that the Puerto Rican channel Wapa Television acquired the stations WKAQ 580 AM and KQ 105 FM, on Wednesday afternoon, the management and talents of both companies celebrated the birth of the conglomerate Wapa Media.

“Without further ado, we have to give the news that we have come to offer so much to everyone who is here with us,” said the KQ 105 FM announcer, Alex Diazwho together with the reporter from “NotiCentro”, Katiria Soto, served as host. “Today Wapa Media is born,” Soto exclaimed.

Immediately afterwards, through a video, it was detailed that the new era of Channel 4, now Wapa Media, will offer a range of programming on multiple platforms, including televisionthe radiodigital and social networks. The conglomerate’s offering, for its part, will be made up of Wapa Television, Wapa Deportes, WKAQ AM, KQ105 FM and Wapa Digital.

“Wapa Media is a significant milestone for Hemisphere Media Group, and we are delighted to bring this innovative multi-platform media company to Puerto Rico,” commented Alan J. Sokol, CEO of Hemisphere Media Group, in his brief words. “With the addition of Puerto Rico’s two main radio stations, we are expanding our commitment to providing the highest quality content to audiences through all relevant media channels,” he added.

Also in the front row was the president and general manager of Wapa Television and CEO of WAPA Media, Jorge Hidalgo. After greeting several of his new coworkers, the executive went over his message.

“The strength of Wapa, added to that of the leading radio stations in Puerto Rico, is a powerful combination for both the audiences we serve and our business partners…“This is a great opportunity to expand the reach of messages throughout Puerto Rico and the entire nation,” he said.

The radio stations emphasized in a press conference that they will remain under the leadership of the current general manager, Hector Martinez Souss. It should be noted that Uforia, TelevisaUnivision’s audio division, will provide strategic programming support for KQ105 FM.

“The sale of these two iconic stations to HMG ensures that they will be led by a great management team. We look forward to supporting KQ105 FM’s music strategy and the station’s continued music leadership position,” said Jesus Lara, President of Local Media at TelevisaUnivision.

Before closing the protocol part, Hidalgo stressed that – for the moment – there will be no changes to Wapa Media’s programming. However, he announced, important coverage, such as the electoral process, will lend itself to collaboration between media.

Among those present, the presence of Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2023, Karla Inelisse Guilfu Acevedo and William Ortiz, digital sales manager at Wapa, one of the six run over last July by a 78-year-old driver in Cayeyand who recovers after the accident.
