UGT employees at the Medical Center ratify salary adjustment proposal

After two months of analysis and discussion between the parties, the employees of the Puerto Rico Medical Centerin Rio Piedras, affiliated with the General Union of Workers (UGT) ratified – in voting – the salary adjustment proposal presented by the Fiscal Oversight Board (JSF), dispelling the possibility of a work stoppage in the country’s main hospital institution.

Through written expressions, the president of the UGT, Edwin Mendezsaid The proposal received the endorsement of 636 of the 968 employees who participated in the votewhich lasted three days.

“We must consider this vote as another achievement on the path to true wage justice. This ratification will not be the last event. Now, more than ever, we must put (into practice) our declaration of principles, when it says: ‘There is strength in the Union,'” said the union leader.

The Board’s proposal received 221 votes against.

For his part, the director of the Medical Services Administration (ASEM), Jorge Mattaassured that the agreement represents salary justice for the employees of the Medical Center and gives the institution the tools to stop the flight of employees and be more attractive when looking for new talent.
