US-built pier to be removed from Gaza coast and repaired after damage caused by waves

Washington The temporary dock built by USA which has been operating for two weeks to deliver humanitarian aid to starving Palestinians will be removed from the coast of the Gaza Strip to be repaired after being damaged by bad weather conditions and rough seasreported on Tuesday Pentagon.

Over the next two days, the pier will be removed from the beach and sent to the southern Israeli city of Ashdod, where it will be repaired by US Central Command, Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh told reporters. She added that repairs will take “just over a week” and that later the dock will have to be anchored again on the Gaza beach.

“It has been working since it was launched but we have had a sort of unfortunate confluence of weather storms that have left it inoperative for a while.”Singh commented.

The dock, used to transport humanitarian aid arriving by sea, is one of the few ways to get free food and other supplies to Palestinians who, according to the UNare on the brink of starvation amid the nearly eight-month war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
