US immigration agent charged for taking photos of flight attendant without consent

Miami— A federal immigration agent faces a possible prison sentence after being accused of using a cell phone camera to try to take upskirt photos of a flight attendant when he was escorting an immigrant who would be deported.

Billy Olvera48, was charged Wednesday in federal court in Miami of interfering with a flight crew, a crime punishable by up to 20 years in prisonalthough it is unlikely that the sentence for the agent, who resides in Laredo, Texas, will be that long.

Said sentence is scheduled for the month of August and until then he is free on bail.

On November 6, 2023, Olvera, a deportation agent for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE, for its acronym in English), was with the migrant on board a flight American Airlines who was going from Dallas to Miami, when a flight attendant noticed that, every time she passed by him, the agent placed his cell phone in the aisle facing the ceiling, the prosecutor’s office said.
