Vega Baja extends paternity leave to 16 weeks for all its employees

At a time when the future of a measure in the Legislature that would extend paternity leave to the private sphere and extend its period in the public sector is still uncertain, the Municipality of Vega Baja announced on Friday that it extended this right to 16 weeks for all its employees.

Mayor Marcos Cruz Molina He explained that the proposal became official after the approval of a new regulation by the Municipal Legislature.

“This extension of paternity leave is a fundamental step towards equality and support for families in our municipality. “We will continue to promote policies that strengthen family ties and contribute to the comprehensive well-being of our employees and their loved ones.”he expressed in writing.

Currently, paternity leave for public sector employees is limited to 15 working days. In the case of Vega Baja, the Municipal Legislature increased that benefit to 56 working days in 2021.
