Victor Wembanyama heads France’s call for the Olympic Games

Paris- With Victor Wembanyama as the axis, the coach of the French basketball team Vincent Collet announced on Thursday the preliminary list of 19 players who will participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

After recently being named NBA Rookie of the Year, the 2.24-meter-tall center boosts France’s aspirations to win a medal alongside Rudy Gobert, Nicolas Batum and Evan Fournier.

With Gobert and Wembanyama, France will have two of the best defensive players in the NBA. Gobert was named Defensive Player of the Year for the fourth time, narrowly edging out his compatriot.

“The key is to build a team that will establish an overwhelming defense,” Collet said at a press conference. “We have profiles that stand out in this area.”

The roster, which will be reduced to 12 players for the tournament, also includes Bilal Coulibaly, Ousmane Dieng and Killian Hayes. All three also played in the NBA this season.
