“We believe we can qualify for the World Cup”: players and coaching staff from Puerto Rico close ranks around the same goal

For the first time in the history of the FIFAthe Confederation of North American, Central American and Caribbean Football, known as Concacafcould have up to eight representatives in the world Cup 2026 that will have 48 nations battling for the coveted Jules Rime trophyt.

And within the promising squad of the Puerto Rico National Soccer Teamthere is no talk of the mere fact of participating and taking advantage of the momentum brought by the players who are active in Spain Leandro Antonetti and Jeremy De Leon (Real Madrid Castilla), but they believe “can be achieved” the maximum objective.

The task is not easy, if not almost impossible, given the sporting history of some of the 29 aspiring teams. Puerto Rico, for its part, has never qualified for a soccer World Cup. But the so-called “Blue Hurricane” took the first step last Thursday by drawing 0-0 as a visitor against El Salvador. On Tuesday, they have a second at bat when they receive (before a full house) at the Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium, in Bayamon, their counterpart from Anguilla.
