“We have nothing”: while Israel attacks Rafah, displaced Palestinians live in camps

Gaza Strip – The tent camps stretch for more than 10 miles along the coast of Loop, fill the beach and reach vacant lots, fields and city streets. Families dig trenches to use as bathrooms. Parents search for food and water, while children dig through trash and destroyed structures in search of pieces of wood or cardboard for their mothers to burn for cooking.

Over the past three weeks, Israel’s offensive in Rafah has caused nearly a million Palestinians to flee the southern city of Gaza and scatter across a wide area. Most have already been displaced several times during the war Israel in Gaza, for almost eight months, whose objective is to destroy Hamas but that has devastated the territory and caused what the United Nations says is almost a famine.

The situation has been worsened by a dramatic drop in the amount of food, fuel and other supplies reaching the UN and other aid groups for distribution to the population. Palestinians have had to relocate their families and find the basics to survive on their own.
