What happens to your body with excessive consumption of painkillers

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as those containing ibuprofen or aspirin, are one of the drugs most used in the world and more than 30 million people take them daily, according to a study by the Semmelweis University of Hungary that was recently published in the journal Pharmacology & Therapeutics.

Hungarian researchers point out that excessive consumption of these types of painkillers can have a negative impact on the health of people.

This is because, as they point out, “If taken regularly or in large quantities,” “they can potentially worsen the symptoms of certain diseases” and “cause dysbiosis”, that is, “an imbalance in the intestinal microbiota, which could negatively affect patients’ underlying diseases.”

The above is relevant because, according to the same study, “the intestines contain more than one trillion microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses and fungi. They are called intestinal microbiota and are essential for the healthy functioning of the body.”
