White House refuses to hand over to Republicans the audio of an interview that Joe Biden had with special counsel

Washington – This Thursday, the White House blocked the delivery to congressional Republicans of audio recordings of interviews held by the president of the United States. Joe Bidenwith a special prosecutor as part of an investigation into his handling of classified documents.

The White House justified its decision by arguing that Republicans only intend to access these recordings “to distort them” and use them for partisan purposes.

“The absence of a legitimate need for the audio recordings exposes their likely purpose: to crop, distort, and use them for partisan political purposes,” stated in the letter made public today the White House lawyer, Edward N. Siskel.

“Demanding such sensitive, constitutionally protected materials from the executive branch because they want to manipulate them for possible political benefit is inappropriate,” Siskel added in the letter.

The dispute over access to the recordings is part of Republican attempts to accuse Attorney General Merrick Garland of contempt, who has refused to hand over to congressional committees those recordings of Biden’s interviews with the special counsel. Robert Hur.
