The Puerto Rican swimmer Xavier Ruiz He established a national record by finishing in fourth place in the final of the 200 meters breaststroke with a time of 2:14.03 at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.
According to sports historian Carlos Uriarte, the young athlete, 17 years old, surpassed the island record of 2:16.16, which was established by swimmer Todd Torres in 1994.
In the preliminary of this test, Ruiz clocked 2:15.06 to finish in the first position of his heat.
Ruiz began his participation in the continental competitions in the 100 meter breaststroke, where he finished in eighth place in the final.
In this way, the young swimmer finished his participation in these Games with two finals in the two modalities in which he competed.
