Pittsburgh – New York Yankees reliever, Anthony Misiewiczwas hit in the face by a line drive off Ji Hwan Bae’s bat and left Friday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Bae hit a 100.6 mph liner to the mound with two runners on the bases in the bottom of the sixth inning.. The left-handed Misiewicz raised his glove in an attempt to catch it, but his reaction was not in time. The ball hit his face and bounced toward right field.
Misiewicz, 28, was left lying on the ground for several minutes while he was treated by medical personnel. He stood up and was able to reach the cart with a towel pressed to the left side of his face.
Bae’s single for the Pirates tied the game at 3-3.
Misiewicz was replaced by Zach McAllister.
